An awareness builder for the freedom of expression via the written word and much more. PEN offers grants, global issues regarding freedom of expression, resources for writers, emergency funds, etc.etc. A major support for writers on many levels both politically, professionally, and personally.
This site is very instructional and how-to driven. Learn how to write queries, a synopsis, self editing techniques and plenty of other helpful tools. Links to other literary sites are also in abundance. It never hurts to learn another technique. One caveat: the page uses Java and load times can frustrate.
